Did you know serendipity (the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate) derives from an old Persian fairy tale?  “Serendip” was the old Farsi word for “Sri Lanka”, and in the story The Three Princes of Serendip as their highnesses travelled, they continuously came across accidental sagacity.  The phrase was thus coined by an Englishman (Horace Warpole) in a letter to his friend describing the tale as the phenomenon of “serendipity” …
